Step 2 - Enter a Password
When your viewers visit your live site, they'll see a message like this:
Keep in mind:
- You can even select the option to Display a Custom Message. When your viewer clicks on the page that is protected, the message will be displayed with the option to type in the password. This added feature is often used to present additional info on retrieving the password.
- If you plan on adding a document to a password protected page, you'll want to add the password first. Once you protect the page, then you'll want to add the document. This way the document will not be found by search engines such as Google. If you add the document first and then password protect the page, Google will still be able to view your document when it crawls your site.
- If you want to password protect your entire site, you'll first want to select your site's home page. From there you can click on the button in your Page Editor titled Password Protect Site, then follow the same process to add a password and custom message.
